
The Legend of Zelda game from Nintendo and Sony is set to be adapted into a live-action film. In a post on X on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo's boss, announced that actress Bo Bragason will play the lead character Zelda, with Benjamin Evan Ainsworth playing Link.
Miyamoto attached a photo of both of them wearing costumes. "I am proud to announce that for the live-action film The Legend of Zelda, Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san. I am looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen," the X post quoted, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Bo Bragason has showcased her acting abilities through a number of independent film and television projects. On television, she is known for her roles in the BBC One series Three Girls and The Jetty, and the Disney+ series Renegade Nell, according to The Movie Database website. Bragason is known for her natural charm, strong emotional expressions, and appearances that are considered suitable for fantasy characters. With this background, she is seen as the right choice to play Princess Zelda.
Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that the live-action Legend of Zelda film will be released in theaters on May 7, 2027. Bragason will star alongside Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, an actor known for playing Miles in the Netflix series The Haunting of Bly Manor, and as William in Flora & Ulysses.
Wes Ball, director of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, will direct Legend of Zelda. Similar to the game, the film Legend of Zelda focuses on Link and Zelda's efforts to save the Kingdom of Hyrule from the evil Ganon's attack. Sony will distribute the film, which originates from Nintendo's Arad Productions, Inc. and Avi Arad.
