TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pixar has proven it’s more than ready to welcome Woody and the gang back to the big screen, as the full trailer for 'Toy Story 5' officially debuts.
Seven years after the franchise’s latest installment, 'Toy Story 4', the new chapter appears to tackle a familiar yet timely theme surrounding modern childhood.
The two-minute-and-24-second clip opens with Bonnie staging a wedding ceremony between Forky and Knifey. But the lighthearted moment quickly shifts when a package arrives at the door. Bonnie excitedly opens it to discover her brand-new tech tablet, Lilypad.
As days pass, Bonnie becomes increasingly attached to Lilypad. Her screen time grows, while her toys are slowly neglected. Jessie begins to worry that Bonnie’s goal to make friends is failing, especially when Lilypad itself seems to develop an unsettling attitude.
The tension rises, prompting Jessie to reach Woody through a walkie-talkie, leading to an emotional reunion with Buzz and the rest of the gang. Together, they make an effort to stop the growing influence of the device and assert their place as Bonnie’s forever friends.
According to Variety, the film reunites not only the beloved characters but also the voices behind them. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen return as the iconic duo Woody and Buzz, joined by Joan Cusack, Blake Clark, and Tony Hale who reprise their roles as Jessie, Slinky Dog, and Forky.
However, 'Toy Story 5' will expand beyond nostalgia. Pixar continues its efforts to refresh the ensemble with new characters. As reported by Deadline, audiences will be introduced to Smarty Pants, voiced by Conan O'Brien, GPS hippo Atlas, voiced by Craig Robinson, and the camera toy Snappy, voiced by Shelby Rabara.
Written by Andrew Stanton, who co-wrote the original two 'Toy Story' films and 'Toy Story 4,' 'Toy Story 5' is scheduled to hit theaters on June 19. With Rex panicking, 'Extinction, not again!' can the gang protect their bond with Bonnie, or will technology finally win?
