The Spanish national team has released a preliminary list of 55 players in preparation for the 2026 World Cup finals.
With only about a month left until the 2026 World Cup officially kicks off in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, national teams are currently rushing to prepare their squads for the biggest football event on the planet.

According to Marca, among the 55 players named in the Spanish national team squad, there are several injured players such as Victor Munoz, Jorge de Frutos, Aleix Garcia, and Yeremy Pino. Marca wrote: “Based on the preliminary registration list submitted to FIFA, we can get a general idea of La Roja's official lineup for the World Cup. In goal, Unai Simon and David Raya are almost certain to be included, while the remaining spot will most likely go to Joan Garcia.”
In defense, the names with a good chance of being included are Llorente, Porro, Laporte, Cubarsi, Huijsen, Cucurella, and Grimaldo. Midfield boasts many of today's top stars such as Rodri, Zubimendi, Merino, Pedri, Fabian, Olmo, Fermin, and Gavi. In attack, Nico Williams, Yamal, Alex Baena, Mikel Oyarzabal, Ferran Torres, and Borja Iglesias are considered important options.”
According to the plan, coach Luis de la Fuente will finalize the 26-player squad for the 2026 World Cup before May 30th. After that, La Roja will have two friendly matches to assess their squad and refine their playing style. They will face Iraq on June 4th in A Coruna (Spain), before clashing with Peru on June 8th in Puebla (Mexico).

Following this preparation phase, Spain will return to Chattanooga, Tennessee (USA) to complete the final steps before their opening match. Coach Luis de la Fuente's team will kick off the 2026 World Cup with a match against Cape Verde at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Atlanta. They will then face Saudi Arabia on June 21st and Uruguay on June 27th.
