Manchester United's central defender Lisandro Martinez was extremely surprised when he was sent off for pulling an opponent's hair during the 1-2 defeat against Leeds.
Following a challenge for an aerial ball with the opposing team's striker, Martinez pulled Calvert-Lewin's hair, causing the player to fall to the ground.
Initially, referee Paul Tierney missed the incident but was advised by VAR to review it on the screen.
The referee had no choice but to issue a direct red card to Lisandro Martinez.
The Argentinian defender appeared shocked by the decision, his expression unreadable.
The reaction of MU fans on social media was even clearer as they expressed their regret.
One commenter wrote: "There's no reason to mess with another player's hair."
Another fan added: "That red card was ridiculous. Why did Lisandro grab his opponent's hair?"
The Premier League has confirmed the decision. The statement said: "After reviewing the footage on VAR, the referee has shown Martinez a red card for violent conduct."
The referee announced that Manchester United's number 6 player committed a hair-pulling foul – an act of violence. The final decision was a red card.
