Manchester United's official website has confirmed that Kobbie Mainoo has signed a new contract, extending his stay at Old Trafford until June 2031.
Having come through the Manchester United academy, at the age of 21, Kobbie Mainoo has already made 98 appearances for the team he has admired and dreamed of playing for since childhood.
Mainoo was identified by MU as a player of the club's future generation, but he almost left after being sidelined under Ruben Amorim.
The arrival of Michael Carrick helped revive Kobbie Mainoo's career, and this was a crucial factor in Manchester United's negotiations to persuade him to sign a new contract, which included a significant salary increase.
Manchester United's leadership aims to finalize a contract with Mainoo before the 2026 World Cup. The reason is that, given his current form, there's a high chance this talented player will be called up to the England squad by manager Thomas Tuchel to participate in the World Cup.
Chelsea had previously expressed interest in signing Mainoo, and now, if he shines at the 2026 World Cup, even more clubs will be eyeing him. Therefore, MU wants to ensure both sides sign a new contract to avoid the constant worry of another team 'snatching' him away.
On this memorable day, Kobbie Mainoo shared: “Manchester United has always been my home. I am fortunate to live my dream every day, with a burning desire for success with this club, ever since my first training session at the age of 6.”
We can all feel the strong momentum of MU's development. I will do my best and contribute to help MU consistently compete for major titles in the coming years .”
