Mateta has become a transfer target for Manchester United.

The French striker's contract expires at the end of next season, but negotiations are currently at a standstill, leaving Crystal Palace at risk of losing their key player for free if they don't make a decision soon.

According to Sky Sports , Manchester United have been monitoring Mateta for a long time and are ready to enter the race. Although the Red Devils are not prioritizing buying a striker in the January transfer window, they are still closely watching developments at Selhurst Park.

Palace had previously rejected an offer of up to £50 million, but this price could change as Mateta's contract nears its end.

Mateta's future is reportedly closely linked to manager Oliver Glasner, who has also not committed to a long-term future with Palace and could leave the club after this season. Conversely, the London club has reached an agreement to sign Brennan Johnson from Tottenham to strengthen their attacking options and share the burden with Mateta.

Mateta is having an impressive season, scoring 8 goals in 19 appearances for Palace. Prior to that, he scored 17 goals in 46 games last season and 19 goals in 39 games in the 2023/2024 season.

The 27-year-old striker also doesn't hide his ambition to compete in the Champions League, which could lead him to consider leaving Palace if the right opportunity arises.

On Manchester United's side, manager Ruben Amorim has stated he will only recruit players who are "truly perfect for the future," prioritizing a defensive midfielder in the summer rather than a massive spending spree in January. This means Mateta is only on their watchlist, but could become a hot commodity in negotiations if he doesn't renew his contract with Palace.
