A famous restaurant in New York (USA) is attracting attention by launching a special version of its dessert for Valentine's Day, featuring a real diamond hidden inside a chocolate heart.
According to the New York Post , the Valentine's Day version of the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate dessert consists of a hollow milk chocolate heart containing a diamond weighing between 0.1 and 1.2 carats, with an estimated value of $15 to $10,000 (approximately 388,000 to 259 million VND).
This chocolate ice cream comes with a small wooden hammer, allowing diners to break open the chocolate heart themselves to discover the "treasure" inside.
This dish is only served for one day, and is priced at $29.95 (approximately 775,000 VND).
Sharing his thoughts on this concept, Joe Calderone, creative director of Serendipity 3, said the restaurant always aims to transform dining into a memorable experience. For Valentine's Day, the team wanted to offer diners a surprising, romantic, and emotionally rich moment.
Established in 1955, Frozen Hot Chocolate is Serendipity 3's iconic dessert, made with 14 types of cocoa, milk, and ice, and has captivated many celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Blake Lively, John Travolta, Cardi B, and Selena Gomez. To date, the restaurant has sold over 30 million cups of this ice cream worldwide.
The Valentine's Day edition with diamonds will be available at both Serendipity 3 locations: the long-standing Upper East Side branch and the Times Square branch.
To realize this lavish project, Serendipity 3 collaborated with Isabela Grutman, a Brazilian model and founder of her own jewelry brand since 2022. The owner of the unique 1.2-carat diamond will work with Isabela Grutman to design and craft the stone into a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry.
Serendipity 3 is a dessert restaurant in New York City, operating since 1954, known for its high-priced sweets and experiential approach.
Besides the most famous Serendipity 3 treat, the Frozen Hot Chocolate mentioned above, Serendipity 3 has introduced many other expensive variations.
In 2004, the restaurant launched the Golden Opulence Sundae, an ice cream topped with 23-karat edible gold, which was recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's most expensive ice cream at $1,000 (approximately 25.9 million VND).
Later, the Frrrozen Haute Chocolate version, priced at up to $25,000 (approximately 650 million VND), continued to attract attention with its crystal glass and gold and diamond jewelry.
More recently, for Valentine's Day 2023, the restaurant collaborated with jewelry designer Lorraine Schwartz to introduce the Diamond Frrrozen Hot Chocolate, a dessert worth $250,000 (approximately 6.5 billion VND), with a significant portion of its value coming from the accompanying diamond ring.
Serendipity 3's high-priced desserts are not mass-produced but are limited editions, often appearing on special occasions like Valentine's Day, and are seen as part of a brand image building strategy rather than a popular culinary trend.
