Drinking 1-2 cups of coffee a day: An unexpected "nemesis" of dangerous diseases.

Coffee is a globally popular beverage, not only helping you stay alert but also offering many benefits such as reducing the risk of diabetes and liver disease, boosting brain function, and improving mood.

Now, new research published in the scientific journal Journal of Health, Population, and Nutrition has discovered another amazing benefit of coffee: preventing a dangerous disease that occurs when the heart stops pumping blood to the body, according to the medical news site News Medical.

Scientists from Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University (Ukraine), NMC Specialty Hospital, United Arab Emirates, and Sudan University of Science and Technology systematically reviewed and meta-analyzed studies from January 2012 to October 2025, involving 656,666 participants from various countries, followed for 35 years.

During the study period, there were 20,646 new cases of heart failure.

The results showed that drinking 2-4 cups of coffee per day significantly reduced the risk of heart failure, with a reduction of nearly 8%.

Notably, the greatest benefit (a 12% reduction in the risk of heart failure) was achieved when drinking 1-2 cups of coffee per day.

However, the benefits diminish when drinking more than four cups of coffee a day, according to News Medical .

Researchers explain that both caffeinated and decaf coffee have similar effects. This suggests that, in addition to caffeine, other compounds in coffee, such as chlorogenic acid and polyphenols, may contribute to these benefits through their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Furthermore, new evidence also indicates that coffee may support a beneficial gut microbiome.

The study authors concluded that moderate coffee consumption may be a good way to protect cardiovascular health. Ideally, this should be 1-2 cups of unsweetened black coffee per day.
