The special edition Moon Shadow serves as a final farewell to the previous generation of Lexus ES in the Chinese market, before the new generation launches later this year.
Although Lexus has officially unveiled the 8th generation ES, the predecessor version continues to be present in the Chinese market to maintain its appeal for a while longer before the new generation goes on sale. Recently, the Japanese luxury car manufacturer introduced a special edition of the standard Lexus ES 200. Called the Moon Shadow, this final special edition serves as a farewell to the previous generation Lexus ES in the Chinese market.
Despite being the lowest-priced and performance-oriented version in the Lexus ES lineup, the special Moon Shadow edition is designed to look significantly more upscale. The highlight of the Lexus ES 200 Moon Shadow is its two-tone exterior paint scheme, reminiscent of luxury Maybach and Rolls-Royce models.
Lexus says the striking contrast between the upper and lower parts of the car is inspired by moonlight reflecting on rivers and the sea. More specifically, Lexus has applied a color tone to the hood, roof, pillars, and trunk of the 2026 ES 200 Moon Shadow. The entire lower section is painted in contrasting black.
The distinctive spindle grille is finished in Obsidian Black with chrome accents. This design is consistent with the trim around the air intakes on the front bumper and the rear cladding. Additionally, this 4,975 mm long sedan features premium 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels.
Lexus has not yet released images of the ES 200 Moon Shadow's interior. However, it would not be surprising if the car retains the features of the regular Lexus ES 200. This standard version boasts a 14-inch central infotainment screen and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. Other standard features include heated/cooled/8-way power adjustable front seats with lumbar support, ambient interior lighting, a 10-speaker sound system, and a 360-degree camera.
Under the hood of the Lexus ES 200 Moon Shadow is a 2.0L naturally aspirated four-cylinder gasoline engine, shared with the Toyota Corolla and Camry models in China. The engine produces a maximum power of 170 horsepower and a maximum torque of 205 Nm. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a Direct Shift CVT continuously variable transmission, allowing for a top speed of 205 km/h.
In the Chinese market, the Lexus ES 200 Moon Shadow is priced at 307,800 Yuan (approximately 1.077 billion VND). This price is 7,900 Yuan (27 million VND) higher than the standard ES 200 Premium version, but 4,900 Yuan (17 million VND) cheaper than the ES 200 Black Edition currently sold in Vietnam.
At the top of the Lexus ES lineup in China is the ES 300h Executive Edition, priced at 488,900 yuan (approximately 1.71 billion VND). This version uses a more fuel-efficient hybrid engine. The seventh generation of the Lexus ES was launched in 2018 and underwent its first mid-cycle refresh in 2021. It will receive another mid-cycle refresh in this market in 2024.
