Bosnia & Herzegovina were the better team in the opening minutes. The European side pressed their opponents and caused a lot of difficulties for the Qatar defense.
Qatar proactively chose a defensive approach because the 0-6 defeat against Canada significantly affected the players' confidence. Their early elimination after two losses also demotivated the Asian representatives. After a period of constant back-and-forth in the midfield, Bosnia & Herzegovina scored the opening goal.
In the 29th minute, Alajbegovic dribbled past two Qatar midfielders before unleashing a spectacular long-range shot to open the scoring for Bosnia & Herzegovina. Just five minutes later, Edin Dzeko's cross deflected off defender Sultan's leg and into his own net. Qatar once again faced the nightmare of defeat.
But not long after, Qatar seemed to wake up after conceding two goals. Coach Lopetegui urged his players to play more aggressively. In the 41st minute, Sultan redeemed himself by providing an assist for Al Haydos to score from close range, reducing the deficit to 1-2 for Qatar.
In the second half, Qatar played with more enthusiasm but still lacked the necessary effectiveness. In fact, Bosnia & Herzegovina rarely created truly dangerous opportunities. But when the Qatar defense lost concentration, the European team finished off their opponent. In the 80th minute, Mahmic scored from close range to seal a 3-1 victory for Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Bosnia & Herzegovina finished third with 4 points, a goal difference of -1, and had to wait for the results of other groups to determine their chances of advancing. Qatar only drew one and lost two, bidding farewell to the 2026 World Cup in last place in Group B.
According to the 2026 World Cup schedule, the final round of group stage matches will conclude on the morning of June 28th (Vietnam time).
