For over 30 years, inheriting the family business from his parents, Trần Văn Toàn, a farmer born in the 1980s, has successfully built a peach blossom garden in Hiệp Thạnh commune, Lâm Đồng province, realizing his dream. The garden, covering over 9,000 square meters, supplies the market with peach blossoms for the Lunar New Year, featuring not only Vietnamese seedlings but also grafted branches of Japanese peach blossoms.

Vietnamese peach blossoms, with their white and pink hues, last a long time and are propagated from seeds in Hiep Thanh commune, Lam Dong province.

In late December 2025 (approximately mid-November in the lunar calendar), Toan's peach orchard in Hiep Thanh commune, Lam Dong province, attracts many workers busy transferring each tree from the garden soil into pots to provide special care so that they will bud and bloom in time for the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026.

The vibrant peach blossoms are cultivated and cared for at Toan Peach Garden in Hiep Thanh commune.

Accordingly, with a model of one tree for cultivation and one tree for harvesting, sowing seeds as soon as the fruit is harvested, and with a germination rate of over 90%, Toan Peach Garden has stabilized the technical process of producing commercial peach trees from seeds for about 3 years. Specifically, from May to June of the lunar calendar each year, Toan Peach Garden selects ripe peaches, extracts the seeds, and sows them in sandy soil. After about a month, the seeds germinate and develop into seedlings 10-15 cm tall, which are then transferred to soil pots for nurturing. After another 4 months, the seedlings are transplanted directly from the soil pots into the outdoor garden. They grow naturally for another 2 years, becoming commercial trees ready for wholesale to tourist areas and villas, and for retail sale annually during the Lunar New Year to customers inside and outside Lam Dong province.

Customers come to Toan's Peach Garden to order large quantities of various types of peach trees every year.

The manager of a 30-hectare eco-tourism area said that his resort has "transplanted" hundreds of peach blossom trees of various ages and colors from Toan's Peach Garden over the years, contributing to the creation of a unique landscape and attracting visitors to enjoy the blooming flowers during the Lunar New Year. A customer from the furthest reaches of the area, an eco-tourism operator in the northern mountainous region, commented: "The peach trees Mr. Toan grows from seeds thrive, with vibrant blossoms on multiple layers of branches and a balanced canopy. Thanks to these unique features, our eco-tourism area attracts an increasing number of visitors for spring outings, photo opportunities, and experiences."

A "fairyland" of cherry blossoms.

To maintain stable connections with traditional customer partners and develop new markets across the country, garden owner Tran Van Toan recalls learning peach blossom grafting techniques from his parents over 30 years ago in his outdoor garden, which was previously used for short-term crops, covering a total area of 6,000 m² in Hiep Thanh commune, Lam Dong province today.

At that time, young Tran Van Toan practiced grafting double-petaled peach blossom branches from Nhat Tan, Hanoi, onto the trunk and roots of single-petaled peach blossoms from Da Lat, achieving a survival rate of 30-40%, which was beyond expectations. Toan recalled: “Back then, grafting was only successful with red-pink and dark pink peach blossoms; none of the white-pink ones survived. The reason is that each peach blossom tree has different ecological characteristics, and the grafting time must be chosen appropriately according to the season, month, and day. In particular, white-pink peach blossoms need a longer dormancy period than red-pink and dark pink peach blossoms...”

Japanese cherry blossom propagation using seed sowing techniques has been successfully achieved at Toan Peach Garden at the foot of Elephant Mountain in Lam Dong province.

Over the past 10 years, with the mastery of grafting techniques, creating a new generation of peach blossom trees that can be mass-produced from seeds, garden owner Tran Van Toan has expanded his area to 9,000 m² , continuing his research and production of new varieties of Vietnamese and Japanese dwarf peach blossoms. As a result, Mr. Toan officially launched his dwarf peach blossom products in 2020 and Japanese peach blossoms in 2023. Both new generations of peach blossoms are created sequentially from grafting techniques to seed propagation. Specifically, grafted trees are cared for for 3 years, then the fruit is harvested, the seeds are sown, and nurtured for another 3 years to become commercial trees. It is estimated that annually, the dwarf peach blossoms and Japanese peach blossoms from Toan's Peach Blossom Garden supply the demand for spring flower decorations to welcome good fortune for customers in Lam Dong province in particular and nationwide in general. In particular, Japanese cherry blossom products participated in the exhibition and received awards from the Organizing Committee of the Spring Flower Festival at Da Lat Flower Garden, along with the attention and high praise from domestic and international visitors and locals.

Realizing his dream of creating a new generation of cherry blossoms, both Vietnamese and Japanese, at the gateway to a tourist paradise 1,500 meters above sea level, farmer Tran Van Toan continues to nurture his dream of establishing a "fairyland" year-round, richly colored with the characteristic "combinations" of cherry blossoms from Lam Dong province, serving tourists from all corners of the world. Hopefully, Toan's Cherry Blossom Garden will continue to realize the dream of "cherry blossom tourism" next spring…
