In the early hours of February 23rd, Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres each scored two goals to help Arsenal defeat Tottenham 4-1 away from home in the 27th round of the Premier League.
Eze shone brightly against Tottenham.
For the first time in the Premier League era, a player scored five goals in two North London derbies in a single season. After scoring a hat-trick against Tottenham in the first leg, Eze went through an 18-match goalless streak before scoring a brace against their city rivals.
According to Opta , throughout the history of England's top league, only one player has achieved something similar to Eze: Ted Drake, who scored 5 goals against Tottenham in the 1934/35 season.
Against a Tottenham side ravaged by injuries, Arsenal dominated possession for much of the match. Eze opened the scoring for the Gunners with a spectacular overhead kick following a cross from Bukayo Saka.
Although Kolo Muani equalized for the home team almost immediately, that was the only notable achievement for the "Spurs" on their home ground.
In the second half, Arsenal maintained their dominance. The visitors' pressure was materialized by a superb strike from outside the penalty area by Viktor Gyokeres, giving the goalkeeper no chance to save it. This goal shattered all of Tottenham's plans.
Arsenal secured three points in a one-sided derby.
In the 61st minute, Saka faced Guglielmo Vicario but failed to capitalize. However, Eze was in the right place at the right time to tap the rebound into an empty net, securing the win for the visitors. Tottenham played listlessly and conceded a fourth goal in the 90+5 minute, after a breakthrough and shot from Gyokeres.
This result extends Arsenal's lead over Man City to five points, although they have played one more game. In the next round, Mikel Arteta's team will face Chelsea at home, while Man City will travel to Leeds.
