With the official launch of the 2026 Mazda CX-5 in July 2025, the automotive community is once again abuzz with excitement over the design sketches of the 2027 CX-5 Meridian Edition off-road version.
The third-generation Mazda CX-5 has just officially launched in major markets such as Europe, the US, and Australia in July 2025, and the automotive community is once again buzzing with excitement over a rendered image of an off-road version called the CX-5 Meridian Edition 2027. Although not yet officially confirmed by Mazda, this digital rendering is generating great anticipation from
adventure enthusiasts.
According to the YouTube channel AutoYa, the 2027 Mazda CX-5 Meridian Edition SUV is a concept inspired by the existing CX-50 Meridian – an off-road variant with a rugged design and specialized tires.
Although it's just a product of imagination, this idea is considered entirely feasible, especially as Mazda is facing fierce competition from off-road SUVs like the Ford Bronco Sport Badlands, Subaru Forester Wilderness, Toyota RAV4 Woodland, and Honda CR-V TrailSport.
The third-generation Mazda CX-5 SUV has been comprehensively upgraded from exterior to interior, and comes with a powerful 187-horsepower 2.5L SkyActiv-G powertrain, a 6-speed automatic transmission, and standard AWD.
However, to expand its customer base of adventure enthusiasts, a version like the Meridian Edition could be the next strategic step. If it materializes, the Meridian could utilize a 2.5L turbocharged engine producing 227 horsepower, or even the Skyactiv-Z hybrid powertrain currently being developed by Mazda.
In terms of design, the new 2027 Mazda CX-5 Meridian Edition clearly displays a strong personality with its off-road-oriented exterior, raised chassis, underbody protection, and all-terrain tires.
Although this is just a digital rendering, it somewhat reveals the potential for developing a more adventurous version of Mazda's best-selling model.
In a context where consumers are increasingly favoring versatile vehicles that still offer an engaging driving experience, the – albeit unofficial – appearance of the Mazda CX-5 Meridian Edition offers an intriguing glimpse into the future of this SUV line.
