OpenAI is undergoing a new leadership reshuffle, with longtime CTO Brad Lightcap moving into a new role, while two other senior executives are taking temporary leave due to health issues.

These changes come at a crucial time, as the company races against rivals like Anthropic and Google to accelerate the development of enterprise-oriented AI "agent" products.

According to a Bloomberg report, Lightcap will take on a new role overseeing special projects at the developer ChatGPT.

One of his key tasks is to promote the sale of enterprise AI products through joint ventures with private equity funds. In the new structure, he will report directly to CEO Sam Altman.

Meanwhile, OpenAI's newly appointed Chief Revenue Officer, Denise Dresser, will take over some of Lightcap's previous executive responsibilities.

This shift reflects a strategy increasingly focused on revenue growth and expanding into the enterprise market, a sector seen as a key source of revenue in the fiercely competitive AI industry.

Another notable development is that Fidji Simo, CEO of OpenAI's AGI development team, will be taking a few weeks of medical leave to treat an ongoing neuroimmunological condition.

Since joining the company in May 2025, Ms. Simo has played a key role in shaping product strategy and leading core initiatives, including testing and deploying advertising within ChatGPT.

The Iran conflict could not stop OpenAI from raising a record $122 billion in funding.

Although he is expected to return after treatment, Simo's temporary absence comes at a sensitive time.

OpenAI is working to accelerate the development of authentic AI services for businesses in order to close the gap with its competitors.

In an internal memo, Ms. Simo shared that taking leave was "difficult" because the company has an ambitious growth trajectory, but she trusted the leadership team to maintain progress.

These personnel changes occurred in parallel with OpenAI's adjustments to its product strategy.

Last month, the company shut down its highly anticipated AI video creation app, Sora, along with several related products. Other side projects, such as the Instant Checkout feature and the "adult mode" in ChatGPT, were also suspended indefinitely.

This move suggests OpenAI is focusing its resources on bigger priorities. The company is reportedly preparing for a potential initial public offering (IPO), having just raised $122 billion this week, bringing its valuation to $852 billion – a figure that has garnered significant attention in the global technology and financial world.
