Previously, the first Mercedes-Maybach SL convertible, featuring a V8 engine with 577 horsepower, was expected to be priced from 18 billion VND.

Mercedes-Benz Vietnam has officially launched the Mercedes-Maybach SL680 Monogram to wealthy customers in the country. The first SL convertible under the Mercedes-Maybach brand, featuring the 577-horsepower V8 engine from the SL63 but combined with a softer engine mount and suspension system, along with luxurious interior and exterior design details, was first unveiled in August 2024.

Previously, this Mercedes-Maybach SL680 Monogram was priced from 18 billion VND, but the latest announcement shows that the official price in Vietnam is only 14.89 billion VND, a very good price to help it compete with many high-speed sports cars, which is quite different from its segment as a super luxury convertible.

The first striking feature of the car is the Maybach logo appearing everywhere, including on the front air intakes and soft top, much like how luxury fashion brands apply their names to designer handbags—a very classy way of identifying them.

And customers can go even further by adding Maybach emblems all over the hood, which is split in two by a chrome spoiler. The Mercedes-Maybach SL680 Monogram also features a windshield trim, lower air intakes in the front bumper, and a bespoke Maybach grille (with lights, of course).
5.jpg
The interior takes a similar approach to help distinguish the Mercedes-Maybach SL from other SLs. While the basic dashboard architecture and vertical touchscreen are the same, the media display and digital instrument cluster feature Maybach-characteristic animations and startup graphics, and the steering wheel, seats, lower console, and door panels are all upholstered in crystal-white nappa leather.

While the 680 in the Mercedes-Maybach SL680 Monogram's name raises hopes that Mercedes has somehow managed to fit the 6.0-liter bi-turbo V12 engine of the Mercedes-Maybach S680 ultra-luxury sedan under the hood, unfortunately, we have to inform you that there is only a V8 engine option.
7.jpg
And it's not even the 805-horsepower V8 PHEV engine from the SL63 SE Performance, but just the regular 4.0-liter engine from the SL63, producing 577 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. Power is delivered to all four wheels via Mercedes-Benz's standard 9G-Tronic automatic transmission.
8.jpg
Mercedes-Benz didn't specify exactly how much heavier the SL680 is than the SL63. But it's certainly a significant difference, as the company states that the Maybach takes 4.1 seconds to reach 100 km/h, while the SL63 with the same engine and power output takes only 3.6 seconds, and the 470-horsepower SL55 takes 3.9 seconds. The top speed is also reduced from the SL63's 315 km/h to 260 km/h via an electronic limiter.
9.jpg
To give the V8 engine the same refined feel as a V12, Maybach engineers made several significant changes, including installing softer engine mounts, retuning the throttle characteristics, and adding a "noise-optimized" exhaust system. This optimization is the complete opposite of what we, as car enthusiasts, expect from the loudness of a convertible sports car.
10.jpg
The Mercedes-Maybach SL680 Monogram also boasts improved sound insulation compared to the SL63 and a softer suspension. In short, it will be wetter and less exciting to drive than other SLs, but these refinements will truly enhance the feeling of luxury. And besides, the AMG lineup will cater to your needs if you want an SL focused on performance and agility.
11.jpg
But there's one feature of the Mercedes-Maybach SL680 Monogram that makes it sportier than any other SL on sale: it only has two seats. Mercedes has returned to the 2+2 arrangement for the latest SL, a configuration not offered since the late 1980s, but the 680 has swapped the tiny rear seats for an aerodynamic wrap that extends the rear floor up to the front seat headrests.
