Ferrari will put the first production model of its Luce electric car up for auction. The car, bearing chassis number 0 and featuring a unique paint finish, will be sold at RM Sotheby's auction in August, as part of Monterey Car Week, according to Carscoops on July 22nd.
All proceeds from the sale of this electric car are expected to go towards educational projects implemented by The Ferrari Foundation.
According to the auction house, the first all-electric Ferrari Luce could fetch around $1.1 million, while the standard version of the model is priced at around $640,000.
The first Ferrari Luce was built with the participation of the Tailor Made division, the company's unit specializing in developing personalized projects.
The car's body is painted in the exclusive Madreperla Semi-Gloss color, using special pigments that create a color-shifting effect from green to purple depending on the lighting conditions and viewing angle. Ferrari states that the complex painting process makes each car with this paint color unique.
The interior is upholstered in metallic Perla Le Mans leather to create a brighter, more spacious feel. The car also features custom-designed wheels and a plaque confirming it is the first one ever produced.
The Ferrari Luce became one of the most talked-about cars on the internet in late May and faced a wave of criticism from fans of the brand.
Former Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo and Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Matteo Salvini also joined in criticizing the car.
Ferrari unveiled the Luce on May 26th. Following this event, the company's stock fell by nearly 8%.
Previously, on June 23rd, Ferrari replaced its Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer, Enrico Galliera, just weeks after the Luce model was launched.
