Viktor Gyokeres remains Arsenal's biggest disappointment after their draw with Liverpool on the morning of January 9th.
Gyokeres was lackluster against Liverpool.
Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane believes Arsenal missed the opportunity to extend their lead over Manchester City to eight points when they were held to a draw at home against a depleted Liverpool side.
"Two points lost instead of one gained against injury-plagued Liverpool would have put Arsenal eight points ahead and sent a clear message to rivals Manchester City and Aston Villa," Keane assessed.
"Gyokeres played poorly and only touched the ball 8 times in 64 minutes, which is far too few touches for a main attacker," the expert analyzed. "Gyokeres has not lived up to expectations and risks becoming a failed signing."
Keane felt that the arguments about Gyokeres working hard and disrupting the opposition's defense were convincing, but this was the day Arsenal needed the striker to shine in the penalty area.
"Time and time again, Gyokeres dropped too deep to find the ball but wasn't there when Arsenal crossed it in. Arsenal's performance deteriorated badly after the break and it's no surprise Gyokeres was substituted by Gabriel Jesus," Keane analyzed. "That's a worrying sign for him."
Since the start of the season, Gyokeres has only scored 5 goals in the Premier League. Clearly, his performances have not yet lived up to his transfer fee and the high expectations from the club's management and fans.
