With Dreaming V3, ChatGPT not only remembers information better but can also synthesize information from chat history to provide more relevant, contextual, and intelligent responses.

Previously, each conversation with ChatGPT operated independently and did not save context between sessions. OpenAI then progressively added the ability to remember context based on user requests, and later expanded this to retrieving context from the entire chat history.

With Dreaming V3, ChatGPT is upgraded with the ability to "automatically organize and manage memories in the background" by referencing chat history. According to OpenAI, this technology helps chatbots learn from various conversations and synthesize memory states to always provide the most up-to-date and relevant context for exchanges.

In addition to improving memory performance, ChatGPT can now also create a summary of all the information the system is storing about the user. If errors are detected or information needs to be adjusted, users can easily edit this summary directly.

OpenAI says Dreaming V3 is currently being rolled out to paid ChatGPT Plus and Pro users in the US. In the coming weeks, this new feature will continue to expand to more countries, as well as to free and low-priced Go users.

According to OpenAI's internal assessment, the new system significantly improves memory efficiency and the ability to maintain accuracy over time. Specifically, the ability to recall factual information increased from 67.9% in 2025 to 82.8% in 2026. The level of compliance with user preferences increased from 55.3% to 71.3%, while accuracy over time increased from 52.2% to 75.1%.

The memory upgrade is seen as a crucial step in bringing ChatGPT closer to a true personal AI assistant, capable of understanding users more deeply and maintaining a consistent experience over the long term.
