Tuchel was forced to drop Livramento from the squad.
Livramento suffered a muscle problem and will not be able to recover in time for England's opening match against Croatia. This is a major blow as the 23-year-old Newcastle defender was striving for a starting place and had the opportunity to participate in his first major tournament.
According to FIFA regulations, teams are allowed to replace injured players up to 24 hours before their first World Cup match. However, the replacement must be on the preliminary list submitted by the Federation before the final 26-player squad is finalized.
Thanks to this rule, Tuchel decided to call up defender Trevoh Chalobah to replace Livramento. The Chelsea player had previously made one appearance for England, in the defeat against Senegal in June, which was also Tuchel's second match as England manager.
Despite being included in the squad for the qualifying matches against Serbia and Albania, Chalobah hasn't had the chance to play. However, this call-up presents a great opportunity for the 26-year-old center-back to make his mark at the most prestigious tournament on the planet.
The relationship between Chalobah and Tuchel is also a reason why he has earned their trust. It was the German strategist who gave Chalobah opportunities at Chelsea. Tuchel even included him in the starting lineup for the European Super Cup, before giving him his Premier League debut just a few days later.
Meanwhile, Livramento continues to have an unfortunate run of injuries. Last season, he only made 17 appearances in the Premier League due to recurring problems with his knee, hamstring, and thigh.
