Mbappe and Dembele are only the second pair in World Cup history to have scored five or more goals each.
With two goals against goalkeeper Bono, Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele became the second pair to both score five or more goals in World Cup history. The previous pair to achieve this feat were Ronaldo and Rivaldo of Brazil in 2002.
In Japan and South Korea , Ronaldo scored 8 goals, while Rivaldo had 5. These are also the numbers that Mbappe and Dembele have achieved after 6 matches respectively. This means that the two "Les Bleus" forwards still have two more matches to surpass the achievements of their predecessors.
Notably, Brazil also lifted the World Cup trophy that year. This is seen as a lucky sign for the French team at the 2026 World Cup. Coach Didier Deschamps' team has reached the semi-finals of the biggest football tournament on the planet three times in a row. And fans of the French team are hoping they will also reach their third World Cup final in just eight years.
Despite missing a penalty, Mbappe still scored a goal in the 60th minute. In the 66th minute, the French captain also assisted Dembele to seal a 2-0 victory for "Les Bleus". Having overcome Morocco, France will host the winner of the match between Spain and Belgium in the semi-finals, which will take place on the morning of July 15th.
