Coach Thomas Tuchel has delivered good news to three Manchester United stars, as he emerges as the leading candidate to replace Carrick in the 'hot seat' at Old Trafford.
MU have been positive in every aspect – the atmosphere in the dressing room as well as the results on the pitch – since Ruben Amorim left and Michael Carrick was chosen to replace him and manage the team until the end of the season.
The team had resounding and convincing victories against Man City (2-0), Arsenal (3-2), Fulham (3-2) and Tottenham (2-0), and most recently shared points (1-1) at West Ham.
Thanks to this impressive run of results, MU currently occupies 4th place in the Premier League table after 26 rounds of matches.
It was the same players at Old Trafford, but the Manchester United squad under Carrick played completely differently from the Amorim era, which was criticized for being boring and only focusing on tactics.
And along with the excitement of playing for MU, the trio of Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, and Kobbie Mainoo received good news from the England manager, Thomas Tuchel.
With Mainoo, who was initially left out of the squad by Amorim, he started all five games under Carrick and made important contributions to MU. Luke Shaw and Maguire also did their jobs very well, strengthening MU's defense alongside Lisandro Martinez and Diogo Dalot.
As a result, according to The Athletic, all three have a chance to compete for a place in the England squad for the 2026 World Cup this summer, a fact confirmed by Thomas Tuchel himself:
“ It’s great to see Kobbie Mainoo back on the pitch. He’s a huge talent. Mainoo played a full tournament for England, so he’s definitely back in the race for a place in the squad. The same goes for Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire.”
The German strategist added: “There are some surprising faces returning to the race. They play with a four-defender formation and a different style. That will be easier to adapt to England’s current style of play. It’s a very positive competition, you could say .”
Coach Thomas Tuchel has a contract with the England national team until EURO 2028; however, there are rumors that he is currently the leading candidate to replace Carrick as Manchester United manager this summer.
