Construction of the Grand Museum began in 2005, nearly 2km from the Giza Pyramid complex, with a total area of nearly 500,000 m².
The museum marks an important milestone in Egypt's long-standing efforts to preserve and promote its archaeological heritage.

In addition to its role in Egypt's tourism industry, GEM is also a center for
scientific research and restoration, housing one of the largest and most advanced conservation and restoration centers in the Middle East.
“This is a museum that applies the latest scientific innovations, using the most advanced technology to restore and preserve artifacts,” said Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of GEM.
Mr. Ahmed Ghoneim emphasized the larger role of the museum, noting that it is not just a museum but also a center
for education , scientific research and heritage conservation.
“We aim to welcome 15,000 to 20,000 visitors per day and about 7 million visitors per year,” Ahmed Ghoneim continued, noting that the number of visitors on the first day of opening reached about 18,000.
