Toyota has officially introduced the GR GT supercar – the top-of-the-line high-performance model in the Japanese automaker's global product range.
With its bold, aerodynamic exterior design, the all-new Toyota GR GT doesn't disappoint enthusiasts. However, what has caught many people's attention is the interior: some design details seem familiar, reminiscent of Lexus's most affordable sedan – the IS.
Based on the official images, the GR GT's interior is surprising as it features some details similar to the Lexus IS
sports car, a sedan that debuted in 2013.
Most notably, the interior features a red color scheme reminiscent of Lexus's Radiant Red, complemented by modern, round air vents – a design previously adopted by Lexus in the 2025 IS upgrade.
Although the new 2026 Toyota GR GT still boasts its own unique character with premium materials like suede on the dashboard and carbon fiber trim, the similarities to the Lexus IS still raise questions: Is Toyota "reversing" interior design from sports cars to mainstream sedans, or do both models share a common design platform?
The Japanese website Creative Trend also pointed out other similarities, such as the control switch cluster in the center console, which has a design reminiscent of an aircraft control panel – a rather similar shape between the GR GT and the Lexus IS.
As can be seen, details such as the mirror and window adjustment buttons on this all-new GT supercar also have a familiar style, likely sourced from Toyota's common parts inventory. However, it cannot be denied that the GR GT still maintains its own distinct class.
The car features a sporty steering wheel with integrated rotary knobs, large paddle shifters, and a gear selector inspired by the RAV4 design but refined to be sharper and more sporty. These details affirm the high-performance orientation of the flagship model in the GR (Gazoo Racing) lineup.
Sharing components between car brands is nothing new in the automotive industry. Many luxury and supercar brands have done the same. Lamborghini uses technology from Audi, Maserati borrowed components from Dodge, and the McLaren F1 – a legendary supercar – used rearview mirrors from Volkswagen and taillights from a bus.
