Arsenal don't rate Sesko highly.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Sporting Director Andrea Berta was not convinced by Sesko. His concerns revolved around the total cost, including salary, bonuses, and commissions. These factors were considered too high compared to the actual value Sesko could bring immediately.
Berta even frankly assessed it as an "unreasonable and terrible transfer" when considering the financial aspects and long-term effectiveness. Nevertheless, he was still willing to push through the deal if he received strong direction from the management. Ultimately, that did not happen.
Instead, Berta led Arsenal to shift their focus to Viktor Gyokeres. The Swedish striker was deemed a better fit for the team's development strategy. "After careful consideration, the Arsenal board and manager Mikel Arteta agreed with Berta's view and decided not to pursue Sesko," Romano said.
Arsenal's decision reflects a cautious approach to the transfer market, as they not only seek talent but also maintain a tight financial balance. While Sesko is a promising young talent, Arsenal opted for a striker who has already proven his abilities.
In the summer of 2025, Arsenal splashed out £63 million to sign Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon. After 49 games, he scored 19 goals and provided 2 assists. Meanwhile, Sesko cost Manchester United £66.3 million. He had a slow start but gradually found his rhythm, reaching 11 goals and 1 assist in 31 games.
