RM Explains the Unusual Choice for a Title Track

BTS members opened up about the behind the scenes decision making process for their title track ‘SWIM’ during a Weverse (online global fandom platform) live broadcast on March 20, where they discussed their new album ‘ARIRANG.’ RM revealed that ‘SWIM’ was one of the earliest songs created for the album, but it didn’t immediately stand out as a typical title track.

“The song felt calm and subtle, but something kept catching my attention,” RM explained. “It wasn’t intense, and the arrangement is minimal”.

Despite initial doubts, RM emphasized that the song’s strength lies in its emotional resonance, saying it ultimately felt like a track that could connect with many listeners.

Jimin Admits He Was Against It

Jimin candidly shared that he initially opposed choosing ‘SWIM’ as the title track.

“When it was suggested as the title, I was against it,” he said. “We’ve always done powerful choreography as idols, so coming back after a long time with something like ‘SWIM~’ made me wonder if it was the right move”.

His concern reflected the group’s established performance identity and expectations from fans. However what made him change his mind will surprise some fans and it has a deeper meaning actually. Jimin explained that his perspective shifted after RM contributed to the lyrics. He stated that he started to understand that it is a unique song only BTS can do to relay an important straightforward meaning:

“we’re continuing to move forward”.

J-Hope described ‘SWIM’ as “a good song that came to BTS”, while RM noted that it represents “a new feeling for BTS in their 30s.” The track signals a shift toward a more restrained and reflective sound, marking a new chapter for the group. The discussion around ‘SWIM’ highlights BTS’s evolving artistic direction and willingness to challenge their own identity.

BTS released their fifth full length album ‘ARIRANG’ on March 20 at 1 PM KST, marking their first group comeback in 3 years and 9 months.
