Actress Go Youn-jung has wrapped up her latest Netflix romantic comedy ‘Can Love Be Translated?’, opening up about her on-screen romance, off-screen chemistry with co-star Kim Seon-ho, and her own real-life approach to love.

All 12 episodes of ‘Can Love Be Translated?’ were released globally on January 16. The series follows multilingual interpreter Joo Ho-jin (Kim Seon-ho) as he becomes entangled with global top star Cha Mu-hee (Go Youn-jung), resulting in an unpredictable romantic journey layered with humor, emotional growth, and identity conflicts.

Playing a Star with Emotional Scars

In the drama, Go portrays Cha Mu-hee, a former unknown actress who wakes up from a six-month coma following an accident only to discover she has become an international celebrity. Beneath the glamorous exterior lies a character shaped by emotional deprivation, insecurity, and longing for genuine affection.

Go Youn-jung’s performance was widely praised for its emotional range, particularly her portrayal of Mu-hee’s alternate personality Dorami, a manifestation of the character’s inner wounds. The dual role performance added psychological depth to what could have been a conventional romantic comedy

Chemistry Built Through Time and Trust

Speaking about working with Kim Seon-ho, Go revealed that their bond developed naturally as filming progressed across multiple countries. “We were a bit awkward in Japan at first,” she said. “We had only filmed for three days in Korea before heading overseas. But once you’re abroad, meeting fellow Koreans instantly brings people closer.”

Their chemistry deepened during the Canada shoot, where the dialogue load was especially heavy. “Seon-ho suggested we pick a day and memorize 17 scenes together. We spent three to four hours just drilling lines,” she recalled. By the time filming moved to Italy, the two actors had grown noticeably more comfortable, allowing for smoother improvisation and stronger emotional rhythm on set.

How Kim Seon-ho Changed the Character

Go also reflected on how Kim Seon-ho reshaped the role of Joo Ho-jin. “On paper, Ho-jin felt more rigid and rational almost stiff because the dialogue leaned toward written language rather than spoken tone,” she explained. “I approached my acting thinking I’d need to soften him emotionally.” However, Kim’s interpretation surprised her. “The Ho-jin he created was much warmer. His tone and rhythm were gentle. He was a very kind ‘T-type’ person far more affectionate than I initially imagined.”

“I’m Honest and Proactive About Love”

Cha Mu-hee is portrayed as emotionally direct and unafraid to chase love even recklessly so. Asked whether she shares that trait in real life, Go answered candidly. “I think I’m proactive too,” she said. “But I wouldn’t go as far as chasing an ex the way Mu-hee does. She’s desperate because she never experienced stable love.” Go described her own approach as straightforward rather than regret-driven. “I’m honest and active in expressing my feelings. I try to love in a way that doesn’t leave me thinking, ‘I should’ve done more.’”

A Romance Grounded in Emotional Balance

With its blend of heartfelt romance, light humor, and emotional complexity, ‘Can Love Be Translated?’ has resonated strongly with viewers worldwide. Go Youn-jung’s candid reflections offer insight into how mutual trust, shared rhythm, and emotional honesty shaped both her performance and the series’ romantic core.

‘Can Love Be Translated?’ is now streaming globally on Netflix.
