The launch event for a new high-end Snapdragon chip has been announced for April 2. This is expected to be the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 with the Snapdragon 8 Elite being a relatively fresh release.
Last year’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset powered upper mid-rangers like the HONOR 200 Pro and POCO F6. This should give readers an idea of what devices the anticipated chip will power.
As per the latest news on the upcoming chip, it will be an octa-core chipset with 1+3+2+2 architecture. The cores include a Cortex-X4 prime core (@3.21GHz), three Cortex-A720 cores (@2.8GHz), two Cortex-A720 cores (@2.8GHz), and two more Cortex-A720 cores (@2.02GHz).
This will be paired by an Adreno 825 GPU, which is likened to the Adreno 830 found in the Snapdragon 8 Elite. However, it will have fewer cores and a 6MB SLC cache and an 8MB L3 cache. The new chip is also rated for an Antutu benchmark score of 2 million.
The first devices expected to pack the new chip should be launched by April. So far, this includes the iQOO Z10 Turbo Pro and Redmi Turbo 4 Pro. We’ll update readers tomorrow for details on the new chip!
