Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Nissan Motorsports & Customization Co., Ltd. (NMC) have announced new initiatives to strengthen Nissan’s brand through expanded motorsport activities and a broader NISMO vehicle lineup.
The initiatives form part of Nissan’s Re:Nissan product strategy, which identifies so-called “heartbeat models” as core to defining the brand’s identity and emotional appeal. NMC will support this strategy by highlighting performance developed through motorsports and applying it to NISMO road cars through new business programs.
Nissan will continue to use motorsports as a development platform under the theme “Road to track, track to road.” Technologies and driving insights gained from top-level series such as Super GT and Formula E are fed back into NISMO production models. The company also plans to maintain its participation in endurance-based series such as Super Taikyu while expanding into additional racing categories.
On the product side, Nissan plans to significantly expand its NISMO car lineup. The number of NISMO models offered globally is set to increase from five to ten, alongside wider market availability. Annual NISMO vehicle shipments are targeted to grow from around 100,000 units to 150,000 units by 2028, with overseas markets expected to account for 60 percent of sales, up from about 40 percent. Nissan also said it will consider collaborations with external partners to add value and further expand the NISMO business.

From fiscal year 2026, Nissan plans to introduce prototype race vehicles to support faster development of both hardware and software technologies. These efforts are intended to strengthen racing programs while also supporting future NISMO road car development.
NMC will also expand its heritage and restoration business, targeting a global auto restoration market currently valued at about 500 billion yen and projected to exceed 1.2 trillion yen by 2032. Initial efforts will focus on restoration, restomod projects, and parts sales for the Skyline GT-R R32, R33, and R34, with additional models and regional offerings planned over time.
Yutaka Sanada, President and CEO of NMC, said NISMO will continue to enhance the performance and appeal of Nissan vehicles, with plans to apply its motorsports-driven approach across a wider range of Nissan products.
Through continued motorsport involvement, expansion of customization and NISMO offerings, and growth in heritage and restoration programs, NMC aims to strengthen Nissan’s brand presence and deliver new experiences to fans worldwide.
