Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius recently offered a first look at the next-generation CLA, set to debut in 2025. During a test drive at the Mercedes-Benz test facility, Källenius joined host Sarah Harman to discuss the CLA prototype and its new features, representing a fresh direction for the brand’s entry-level segment.

As the first model of a new family, the CLA aims to set benchmarks in range, efficiency, and charging speed. It will be available with either an advanced electric drivetrain or a high-tech electrified combustion engine. Despite the prototype’s camouflage, Källenius showcased elements like the headlight design in the video below, hinting at the model’s sleek, sporty aesthetic.

“With the CLA, we are ushering in a new era at Mercedes‑Benz. We will substantially elevate every aspect of what our customers can expect from a Mercedes in this segment,” said Källenius. Built on a modular platform, the CLA offers flexibility for both all-electric and hybrid versions, integrating Mercedes-Benz’s proprietary operating system, MB.OS, designed to create an intelligent, intuitive driving experience.

The electric CLA draws technology from the EQXX concept, including a next-generation drivetrain developed in-house. This unit features a two-speed transmission, balancing performance and efficiency. A newly developed hybrid option with 48V technology will also be offered, utilizing a cutting-edge transmission for improved fuel economy and driving dynamics.

It will also be the first model to feature MB.OS, equipped with an AI-powered MBUX Virtual Assistant that enables intuitive, natural interaction between driver and vehicle, and hints at a huge step up to the “Hey Mercedes” command found in their current crop of vehicles.

The new CLA will also incorporate design elements from the Concept CLA Class, reflecting a modern, sporty look that signals Mercedes-Benz’s shift towards a tech-forward, environmentally conscious future.
